Dysfunctional Functions

Why is it so

hard to breathe?

I can feel my

throat tightening

A collar of shame,

binding me to

the epitome of my faults

Why can’t I see?

Every time I rub my eyes,

the world gets a little blurry

A telescope view,

sneering at me for being so blind

Like a fool I was, a fool

Why can’t I taste or hear?

Just the cold, metallic taste

of biting back words,

blood, and tears

The ones I once

heard laughing with me,

are now laughing at me

Why can’t I feel?

As if I were a marionette,

a mere puppet till the end,

to play with and torture

Oh, the agony of being

lifeless,

disfigured,

Yet, made to function.

Wow, this poem is soooo powerful! I love how you painted "sneering telescope" and the senses all really capture the sting of unpleasant feelings. Great job!
